Our Story

'Ambajji' is a story of a sixty year old woman named Geeta Maha, who spent most of her adulthood dreaming of living a life as a farmer, but ended up working at a  9 to 6 government job as an officer in a bank.

Everyday as she bought fruits and vegetables sprayed with synthetic pesticides for the family, her resolve to  grow affordable organic fruits and vegetables grew stronger.

Over the years Geeta Maha and her husband pooled funds together to buy a piece of agricultural land in a village two hours away from Hyderabad in 2005. The land so further inside the village was almost a part of the jungle. With 15 years of constant care and nurturing, the farm now has over 2500 fully grown mango trees with 20 different mango varieties. It is also home to over 1500 custard apple trees, 500 guava trees, hundreds of other fruits, vegetables, herbs and several species of birds and animals

The road to a self sustainable farm had its fair share of challenges. While on one hand there was a lack of trained skilled labor, the local infrastructure was also missing. She moved past every hurdle as she trained the villagers to implement good agricultural practices like crop rotation, vermi compost, usage of natural fertilizers like cow dung, neem cake and extensive use of cow products etc, but even then she had only fought of her internal demons. The real battle began when the produce was ready to be sold in the market and finally she faced the lobby of traders.

As she stood face to face with the reality of being a farmer, she realized the extent to which the farmers were exploited in the market by the traders. She therefore broke through the vicious chain of traders and finally paved her own way to bring best quality fruits and vegetables to the consumers directly.
